His range is wide: from photo collages to Bambis, from tables to bronze statues. Our unique Liquid Gloss is a commonly used finishing method. Glass, frames and HD Finish are also regularly featured in his works. Despite all those different art objects and finishes, he knows how to implement his style perfectly. This makes a ‘Paco Raphael’ always recognizable.[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text p_margin_bottom=”20″ width=”1/1″ el_position=”first last” css=”.vc_custom_1608198383208{margin-bottom: 0px !important;}”]Paco begins: “Because of my graphic background, I have developed my own signature that is broader than that of the average artist. My goal is to get the best out of different media, such as photography, graphic design and interior. I like to use the latest techniques.”
Clear style
“I like modern and sleek with bright colors. These characteristics are reflected in all my works. My career as an artist started with making collages. They are still an essential part of my oeuvre. Every day I take photos and collect material. With up to 200 photos, parts or letters, the collages have a dynamic character. I always try to create a symbiosis between old and new.”
“During my career, I felt the need for more challenges and decided to expand with other types of artworks. I designed a table and started making Bambies, the deer, in different ways. In the meantime, the range has been expanded even further and the depth in my work has increased considerably.”
“I try to focus a bit on the demand from the market. Because of the wide range and the different price categories, my art is accessible to everyone. But I also made a number of things because I just thought they should be made.”
Four pillars
“The wider the range, the more important it is for me to have my style reflected in all works. That is also in the material and finish. For that extra touch, I choose, for example, a frame with a nice grain or anti-reflective glass. Quality always comes first. I therefore select my suppliers with the greatest care. Hence my collaboration with Genesis for the finish with Liquid Gloss. For my prints I go to Re-Art. ”
“In addition, I work with four pillars that keep recurring in my work: industrial, urban & city, typography and sexiness. Take Bambi, for example, a sweet and tender animal with sleek surfaces but also with a bit of sexiness in it. The concrete base on which it is placed then ensures the presence of ‘city’. And I often include women in my work in combination with cities. Then I use the pillars of sexiness, typography and city. By interweaving at least one or two pillars in my work, each work becomes a ‘Paco Raphael’.”
Test, test, test
“For each individual project I look at what kind of material can be suitable and which finish is appropriate. Not all materials and finishes can be combined, which is why we are testing a lot. Every time I try to invent the wheel with new materials, including neon, acrylic and light boxes. For my new line ‘New faces’ we are currently testing prints that can produce an even more special effect. In this way I try to give everything its own character by providing each work with something unique within my style.
Beautiful processes
“The process is even more beautiful than the end product. It sometimes takes months to get from idea to final result. With every matching puzzle piece, I see it growing and slowly I see whether it works or not. But I sometimes conflict with myself. Sometimes I am very enthusiastic, then again, I have the feeling that it will never work. It takes persistence and persistence.”
“It also happens that I myself are very happy with the end result, but others are not. That is very annoying, as if someone does not like your child. It’s quite important to get positive responses. Artists are a bit proud and vain. Compare them to musicians who put their whole feeling into a piece of music.”[/vc_column_text][mk_image src=”https://genesispd.nl/wp-content/uploads/2020/11/paco-nieuws.jpg”][vc_column_text p_margin_bottom=”20″ width=”1/1″ el_position=”first last” css=”.vc_custom_1608198337509{margin-bottom: 0px !important;}”]First meeting with Genesis
“My interest in making art started years ago. In addition to my work as Art Director at an advertising agency, I experimented with photos and made collages. I kept getting better at it. At one point I was approached by a gallery and had the opportunity to exhibit my collages at a fair. The collages were first brought by the gallery to Genesis for a Liquid Gloss finish. That was my first meeting with Genesis about ten years ago. Practically all my works, about 25, were sold at the fair. Then I decided to continue, without knowing much about art. I kept coming to Genesis to provide my works with Liquid Gloss.”
“Eyal is now much more than a business relationship. We help each other where necessary, also with non-work-related matters. Compared to other suppliers, Genesis is just that little bit more special to me. Eyal always comes up with good ideas. So, if I have a problem, I’ll call him first. For example, I needed a foot for a sculpture I was working on. I didn’t see a solution so quickly, Eyal did. He can switch quickly and knows many people. Genesis is a reliable party that I like to have in my network.”
As clean as possible
“I regularly visit Genesis at the office and see the most beautiful creations with Liquid Gloss pass by. It is then quite tempting to apply a creation to my works. Yet I don’t burn my hands on it, it doesn’t suit my style. I want to keep it as clean as possible. Liquid Gloss epoxy really is a finish for me, just like glass, plexiglass or museum glass. I like to maintain the contrast with other work, instead of opting for one particular finish. After all, versatility is part of my style.”
Product development
“Eyal and I have done all kinds of experiments, including wood and brushed aluminum. Furthermore, we are often in discussion with each other. As yet, no new product or new line has emerged from this. This does not mean that it will never happen, plenty of ideas and possibilities. And if it doesn’t, I’ll keep using Liquid Gloss this way. It is not without reason that I have been choosing this finishing method for ten years.”[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
