It is hard to imagine anything it in this field that can’t be poured into Liquid Gloss® at De Gietfabriek. Karianne Derijcke really knows how to turn any object into an art object. Whether it’s father’s old workbench, a painted tray or that picutre of which you have fond memories, with a high-gloss epoxy layer of Liquid Gloss, every object becomes unique.[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text p_margin_bottom=“20″ width=“1/1″ el_position=“first last“ css=“.vc_custom_1608197964718{margin-bottom: 0px !important;}“]Karianne begins: “18 years ago, me and my partner started a company in cast floors, Sinck & Ko. During that period I was continuously working on creative processes. In 2007 I came into contact with Eyal Reches for a high-gloss epoxy gold leaf floor. It was the beginning of our collaboration.
More and more ideas emerged along the way. At some point, in 2010, it gave me so much inspiration that I took the plunge and started De Gietfabriek. “
Personal stories
“The possibilities are endless. Almost any object can be cast. But there is a lot more, as far as I am concerned. Personal stories, that’s what I am mainly looking for. These stories often arise when people come up with unique object them selves to pour. After all, it is about the memory that belongs to every item. For me, creativity starts when I can think along about the way in which a memory can be made tangible. “
“It can either be a single object or multiple objects, of which I make one piece. I also like to turn an existing or old item into something new. Recently I transformed an old bench into a wedding bench. The text of the wedding card was floating in the epoxy. With this, a complete new piece of furniture was created, and a very unique gift! ”
“I also notice an increasing interest from the funeral industry. Relatives often want to have something personal from their loved ones. ”
Own objects
Karianne continues: “In addition to my work for customers, I also design my own objects. These objects are for sale on my website, or I sell them though my network or at a fair. Once I have an idea in mind, I will do whatever it takes to get what I want. Consider, for example, the casting of an old pick-up. I search all auction sites for that specific model. Or a chess table, most of the time I immediately see how such a table should look like.“
“Also Yves Saint Laurent’s love posters from all years are very popular. The posters are printed on high-quality paper and encapsulated in a transparent light-colored block. It gives a very nice and unique effect; the color floats into the design of the poster.”
“Customers are more than welcome to see my works in the Genesis showroom. Or to visit me in order to talk about their own ideas.
Exposure
To reach my current target group, I have joined various online inspiration platforms, such as HQUE for designers, architects and specialists. In addition, I can be found on the largest platform for the funeral industry, called Remember me. Furthermore, my cast objects are scattered around the country at various locations. But much of it simply goes by word of mouth. Gietfabriek has built up a good reputation in the market. ”[/vc_column_text][mk_image src=“https://genesispd.nl/wp-content/uploads/2020/12/karianna-nieuws.jpg“][vc_column_text p_margin_bottom=“20″ width=“1/1″ el_position=“first last“ css=“.vc_custom_1608197972829{margin-bottom: 0px !important;}“]Product development with Genesis
Karianne explains: “I work on location at the Genesis offices, which tells something about our close collaboration. We have built up a very good relationship over the years and we know exactly what to expect from each other. We always find each other to create the most beautiful ideas, which regularly results in new creations. These can be new colors or designs, but also better processes.“
Process optimization
“We work with concrete plywood molds, as well as with a durable custom-made silicone variant. Silicone molds are a lot more expensive, but they benefit the production process. Plywood molds must first be sawn and polished before use. Sawing is usually not necessary with silicone molds, which saves both time and work.”
“We also examined the color of the molds. Normally we use dark materials, while light color molds are much more convenient. Fluff, grit and air bubbles can be detected in an earlier stage during the pouring, instead of afterwards. “
Keep testing
Karianne explains: “Liquid Gloss is one of a kind. I don’t know of any other method where the finish is considered as high as with this epoxy. The standards in epoxy vary a lot. It has to do with the composition, but also with the formulas. It is a pity that the quality cannot be seen with the unaided eye, so it needs to be tested first. The actual effect depends on the material type. It can turn out yellow or quite cloudy. Not all epoxy is suitable for casting in a block. Since I work with many different materials, testing is an essential part of my job. It takes time, sometimes one to two weeks. But it is a big step forward when specific color combinations turn out well.”
Inspiration
Karianne concludes: “Genesis inspires me a lot. From the moment I work with them in Krommenie, I am often involved in various processes. Every object and every material requires a different approach because it’s hand made. Whether it concerns the entire process, the type of mold, the method of casting or the final finish. I am learning every day! Conversely, I also inspire the people at Genesis with my ideas and knowledge. And, last but not least, a little feminine energy in the Genesis team full of men will also help to take the inspiration to the next level.”[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
